WE WERE RACIALLY PROFILED BY THE STORE MANAGER GABE
.My family and I drove from Houston with the intention of purchasing some clothing, and after spending over two hours shopping, we proceeded to check out. The store manager, GABE was the one who assisted us at the register.
Unfortunately, the interaction was uncomfortable from the start. He did not greet us and rushed us through the checkout process, mentioning that there were people waiting in line. I initially brushed off the rudeness, but the situation escalated when my husband’s card was declined. The bill was $700 It appeared the balance was close to its limit, and after attempting to pay with his card twice, I tried using mine.
When my card also failed to process right away, the manager told us that he could not complete the sale. I asked for clarification, but he was dismissive, refused to make eye contact, and did not offer any reasonable explanation. We requested to speak with a different manager, only for him to respond that he was the manager and refused to sell us the items. He also asked us to leave!
Despite our attempts to understand what was happening, including my parents trying to ask politely, he simply took the merchandise and walked away from the register. At that point, we felt as though we were being treated unfairly, especially when he refused to provide his name, which a staff member later told us was Gabe.
While we understand that there may have been issues with the payment process, the way we were treated—especially the rude behavior and dismissive attitude—left us feeling that our experience was influenced by racial bias. (We were black) We were disheartened by how we were treated and wanted to bring this to your attention. My mom was even crying.
We hope this issue can be addressed so that future customers do not face similar treatment
