Bamboo plaza, is best known for Neo Happyland Japanese figures… It’s quiet and barren, void of any business. It has an abandoned feel to it, which is almost beautiful in its own way.
Upper levels of parking is barricaded off, as well as roof parking surveilled by security on foot as to avoid graffiti and frisky on-goers…

Utterly disgraceful how this once vibrant spot has withered away into practically nothing. It used to house the hottest dim sum spot in town, as well as an eclectic variety of houseware and specialty shops. Now, the only thing that remains is Neo Happyland, which is certainly still worth a visit, as they have an excellent selection of unique anime/Gundam merchandise available for very reasonable prices.

Sad to see how Chinatown has been left to decay while Little Tokyo is being gentrified by spoiled rotten trust fund brats who want to kick out all of the Japanese businesses and turn it into a new Melrose.

Bamboo Plaza used to be a thriving mall with numerous stores on two levels. It still has a Wells Fargo bank, a Far Eastern Bank and a Lollicup along the outside as well as a Japanese anime store and an adult day health care on the lower level. Aside from that..there is nothing else. The elevators are filled with graffiti and every other store front is empty. About two years ago the ownership changed, the new owner who is Thai, immediately raised the rents and the parking garage fees to exorbitant levels, driving out 90% of his tenants. And so, it remains. He has done nothing to refinish the exterior or attract new business, and has not lowered his rental prices.
